TIPS

THE LITTER
BOX
1. Choose the right litter
Selecting the right cat litter is essential for both new and experienced cat owners. Consider your cat's preferences and any sensitivities they may have. Clumping clay litter is popular and often offered in a variety of different fragrances. Some may choose cat litter with fragrance to cover up unpleasant smells coming from the litter tray, some may consider unscented version for sensitive cats. Explore different options to find the one that suits your cat and lifestyle best.
2. Maintain proper depth
Maintaining the right depth of cat litter in the box is crucial. For clumping litters, keep it at around 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm). This depth allows for effective clumping and odor control. Regularly scoop out waste to maintain cleanliness, preventing any unpleasant odors and ensuring your cat has a comfortable place to do their business.
3. Gradual litter introduction
If you're transitioning to a new cat litter, do it gradually. Mix a small amount of the new litter with the old one, increasing the ratio over time. This helps your cat adjust without causing stress. Abrupt changes might lead to your cat avoiding the litter box, so a gradual shift ensures a smooth transition for both you and your feline friend.
4. Place litter boxes strategically
Strategically placing litter boxes in your home is essential for the comfort of your cat. Avoid high-traffic areas, and make sure there is a box on each floor for multi-level homes. Cats appreciate privacy, so place the litter box in a quiet, accessible location. Keep litter boxes away from their food and water bowls to create distinct areas for eating and eliminating.
5. Regular cleaning and replacement
Regardless of the type of cat litter you use, regular cleaning is key. Scoop the litter box daily to remove waste, and change the entire litter as needed, following the manufacturer's recommendations. This routine prevents odors, maintains a hygienic environment, and ensures your cat always has a clean space. For non-clumping litters, complete replacement may be necessary more frequently.
